What is a Segway? How does it work? The Segway Personal Transporter is the first of its kind - a self-balancing, personal transportation device designed to go anywhere people do. Easy to use and operate, the two-wheeled Segway sports high-tech gyroscopes that monitor your balance 100 times a second and automatically respond to your body's movements. To move forward, the rider simply leans forward. To stop or move backwards, the rider leans back slightly. The rider glides smoothly as the Segway senses where you want to go.

Are you sure you can teach me to ride a Segway? With our product orientation and hands-on instruction, we can teach you to ride a Segway PT in 15 minutes or less!

How do I learn to ride a Segway? All first time riders are required to take a 20 minute product orientation and training session to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Riders are trained on safe Segway operation, emergency stops, smooth and controled lean turns, and our "tour etiquette" policies. All riders are also required to wear a helmet at all times on a Segway PT.

We start by explaining in detail all of the basic operational aspects of the Segway PT. Then we practice basic movements in a smooth surface area. We eventually move to a different area and then finally to a multitude of paths and roadways throughout La Sabana Parque. If you've been a little hesitant or nervous about trying the Segway PT, this is the way to go.

How long does the La Sabana Parque eco-tour last? Our La Sabana Parque eco-tours are an hour and a half long including a 20-minute training. We make stops for picture opportunities throughout the park, including along the Lakeside, the historical airport runway as well the airport tower which is now the very gracious Museo de Arte Costarricense.

Where does the La Sabana Parque tours start? The La Sabana Parque Historical eco-tours meet and depart at the Museo de Arte Costarricense.

Where does it end? The tour ends at the same place it begins, at the Museo de Arte Costarricense.

How far in advance do I need to reserve a tour? Please book as far in advance as possible. Our Segway tours sell out quickly.

What days and times do you offer eco-tours of La Sabana Parque? We are open seven days a week. If you plan to be in the San Jose area of Costa Rica please call for scheduled tour times.

When should I arrive for my tour?: Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time to check in to start your eco-tour and training. If you arrive late we will NOT let you join a tour group that has already started training. Safety and complete training for all of our guests is our first and foremost priority.

What should I wear? Highly recommended: Comfortable shoes (no high heels or flip flops) and an extra layer of clothing if it is cold and windy. We have a supply of rain ponchos available with each Segway and a small handlebar storage bag for cameras, light jackets and purses. Backpacks or bulky bags will not fit in the handlebar bags. Please leave bulky backpacks at home.

Do I have to wear a helmet? Absolutely! It is our policy. All riders are required to wear a helmet for their own safety while riding on a Segway PT. One will be provided to you free of charge.

Are restrooms available? There are public restroom stops along the tour route. The park charges 150 colones which is equivalent to 26¢ to use the parks restrooms. If you should need to stop, please let us know and we will try to accommodate you.

Who can ride a Segway? Riders must be at least 8 years of age. Anyone under the age of 16 must get a release of liability from their parent/guardian. Minors under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. Segway riding is not recommended for pregnant women and will thereby not permitted to participate.

Are Segways safe people with disabilities? A Segway is not an ideal mode of touring for people with mobility issues. All guests must be able to easily and quickly step on and off the Segway without any assistance, which requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without the use of a handrail.

Can I purchase a tour as a gift? Gift certificates are available for all occasions. One of the most unique gifts you can give that special person is a guided tour through beautiful La Sabana Parque. For purchase and more information, please email us for details at: information@segwaycostarica.com

Do you have special rates for seniors? We do not offer discounts for seniors at this time.

Can I rent a Segway without the tour? We do not rent out our Segways. All tours include a guide.

Are the tours cancelled in case of lightening storms or rain? Costa Rica is famous for the rain! Our tours run light rain or shine. Rain gear is available for rainy days. Segways are designed to run in any weather. In the rare case of a tour cancellation due to a severe rain we will offer space on an alternate date or time.

What happens if I have to cancel? Deposits are fully refundable if the reservation is cancelled 72 hours prior to the scheduled tour. We have a limited amount of Segways available for tours therefore No-Shows are charged in full.

Can I arrange for a private group event? Yes - We offer private group tours for corporate functions and families as well as live-events. Private tours are for groups from 4 to 6 people. Larger groups are split up. Visit our Live Events page to request further information and/or a price quote for your next event.

Photo ID required: For security and to reduce fraud… a Photo ID will be required by the tour operator with your Voucher. The last name on the Voucher must match the Photo ID. Voucher must be signed when presented to tour operator.

What are the Rates and Booking Procedure? Prices are per person, unless otherwise specified. All Transactions are in US Dollars. All prices and availability are subject to change without notice. Tour prices or availability of tour is NOT guaranteed until full payment is received and confirmation provided.

Declined Credit Cards: If the authorization on the credit card provided is declined, we will attempt to notify you by email at the email address you provided. The reservation will be cancelled and will need to be rebooked depending on availability.

What are Segway Costa Rica, S.A. Tour Cancellation and No Show Policy? Reservations are required in full via a credit card. We will send an email confirmation of the date and time of your eco-tour. Deposits are fully refundable if the reservation is cancelled 72 hours or more prior to the scheduled tour. We have a limited amount of Segways available for tours. No Shows are charged in full. The pre-paid tour fees WILL NOT be refunded for any reason within 72 hours of your scheduled tour. A signed liability waiver (PDF 134k) is required prior to your tour departure.

IMPORTANT Check your Confirmation for Correct Date and Time: It is your responsibility to be at the designated tour location on the correct date. Please check your confirmation carefully. No refund for no-shows.

Changes to Your Reservation: For most tours there will be no charge for changes 72 hours prior to the tour date. Call or email Segway Costa Rica, S.A. to confirm any changes.

Languages: Segway rider instruction and tours can be conducted in English or Spanish upon request.

Tour Rerouting: If special events, parades, festivals, athletic events or construction are in our area the Segway tour route will be altered without notice.

Do you offer private/corporate/business events? Yes. Segway Costa Rica, S.A. offers private events, corporate team building, and for other special occasions, events, and parties. We can accommodate a variety of special requests.

Your guests will never forget your party or occasion, and they'll talk about it because of the Segway PT. The Segway is fun, and your guests can learn to ride in just a matter of minutes. Segway Costa Rica, S.A. Policy Quicklist:

• All riders are required to undertake supervised training by a Segway Costa Rica training instructor / guide and will be required to wear a safety helmet while on the Segway.
• A minimum of two participants is required to conduct a tour. Maximum participates for a tour is six.
• Segway riders must weigh no less than 100 lbs / 45 kgs and no more than 260 lbs / 117 kgs.
• Minimum age is 13 years. Riders under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
• Segway riding is not recommended for pregnant women therefore we do not accept reservations in such an event.
• You must present a photo ID upon check-in.
• Riders will be required to sign a waiver of liability and initialize an Orientation Safety Checklist.
